Painting
You are now ready to trace the black paint following the design on you patterns.
A light box (not shown here ) is very useful - it will help you put enough paint for the design to be opaque, but do not making
the paint thicker than necessary, it will make small cracks of paint after firing.
Painting glass is not like painting canvas. You cannot go over the same detail twice, you have to do it in one shot. If you
cover more than the area necessary, don't worry! This is fixed when the paint is dry, not when the paint is wet.
Scratch off!
This my favorite part of glass painting, because you can transform what looks like coarse gobs of paint into
something with far more precise detail and sharpness. In this example, I want the glass paint to have the appearance
as dry brush technique on Chinese rice paper. Sharpen the end of a paintbrush, and use it to scrach off areas that
are not needed.
You can see below the effect that has been achieved on some parts of this Chinese character.
After you're done, the glass must be fired. Different types of paint are fired at different temperatures.
This one was fired at 1250 F.
